The cation and anion exchanger pressure vessels are fabricated from mild steel, lined internally with rubber. Each is fitted at the top and bottom with strainer plates to retain the exchangers within the vessels and to ensure uniform distribution and flow of water and regenerant through the unit. Frontal piping with necessary valves, all of corrosion resistant materials of construction are fitted on the units to direct the flow water and regenerant. Regeneration tank, one each for acid and caustic soda are provided from which measured quantities of regenerant solutions are injected into the unit by means of hydraulic ejectors. A conductivity indicator with cell is provided for continuous measurement of treated water purity.
Process: These are two stage deionizers comprise two pressure vessels of corrosion resistant material, one containing cation exchanger and the other an anion exchanger. The cation exchanger converts all ionised solids in the influent water to their equivalent acids, which are absorbed by the anion exchanger when the water passes through it. The water emerging is deionised or deminerlised water with only traces of the dissolved solids present in the water before treatment. When Cation and Anion exchangers are exhausted, they are regenerated, the cation with hydrochloric acid and anion with caustic soda.
Degasification System: The CA Units can be supplied with optional extra equipment such as a degasser to handle certain types of raw waters. A degasser consists essentially of a degasser tower with integral tank, a degasser air blower and a degassed water pump with necessary piping and valves to connect this system to the CA Unit.
Process: The carbon dioxide can be removed mechanically by means of degasser. Cation treated water enters the tower from the top, flowing downwards. The pall rings break-up the flow to expose the maximum surface area to the air from the blower upwards. This ‘Strips’ the carbon dioxide from the water which is vented to the atmosphere from the top.
Mixed Bed: Mixed Bed demineraliser comprises of a single MS rubber lined vessel containing cation and anion strong base exchangers, fitted internally with inlet, outlet and regenerant distributors. The necessary pipe work and valves are fitted externally. To mix the two ion exchangers an air blower is provided. Unit is provided along with pressure gauges, Conductivity meter, and an orifice board for the drain sump to indicate the various regeneration flows involved.
Process: Mixed Bed demineraliser consists of a single column of strong acid cation Resin and a strong base anion Resin that are intimately mixed. Water passing through the column is subjected to an infinite number of deminerlising stages. This produces deminerlised water of externally high purity. Mixed Bed demineralisers are regenerated with acid and caustic. The Resins are separated by backwashing where the lighter anion exchanger is carried to the top of the column and the heavier cation exchanger sinks to the bottom. After regeneration the two ion exchangers are thoroughly remixed with compressed air.
Water Quality: Electrical conductivity is used for expressing the purity of demineralised water. Conductivity is proportional to the residual ionized solids in the water. Low conductance indicates water of high purity, and typical DM water has a conductivity of less than 30us/cm2 and Mixed Bed demineralised water has a conductivity of less than 1us/cm2
